Misused Quotes

So, I've got a couple of pictures of this. I'm sure we've all seen quotation marks where they don't belong.

First, from the Sheetz at US 50 and Poland Rd:

Let's face it: they aren't *always* baking. I guess they are earning their quotes with their slackatude, but who are they kidding anyway? I like Sheetz. Their gas is cheap and their bathrooms are highly rated among gas stations, but I don't eat the baked goods.

Next, from work:

I believe that vacuum is a totally ordinary word. Why does it need to be in quotes *and* capitalized?

It's Here, Amid Absolutely No Fanfare

On Monday morning, I was looking through the cooler at the gas station for Diet Cherry Coke. I've mentioned here before how much I hate aspartame, but I find the cherry flavor covers it because it's so pungent. I can't drink anything with aspartame when I'm hungry though or it will make me hungrier. But, I digress. I didn't find the Diet Cherry Coke. Instead, I found this:

Diet Coke made with Splenda and Ace K, totally free of ass-partame. It's in the cooler in the cafeteria at work too, and yet I just stumbled across it. It seems really odd to me that Coca-Cola would launch a new product with no advertising at all. The marketing blitz for C2 comes to mind...

Maybe they think this stuff will sell itself, and maybe it will. Or, maybe they are not ready to actually meet demand. I've read elsewhere that new products are being held back by a lack of capacity at the jolly old Splenda factory, so maybe it's actually in limited release and the Capital area just got lucky for once.
