Tino and I saw the Jay and Silent Bob movie the other night, and since it was a rush hour show, he just picked me up at work. I was surprised that it still ran us $12.00 for a matinee, but the movie was both incredibly stupid and stupendously funny. After the movie, we drove up to the house, and I had this brief moment of panic: where's my car? Since I'd been complaining about not getting enough exercise, Tino suggested I walk back to the office and get it.
Well. It's a miserable walk, which is a shame, because it's far enough to be a good walk, but not so far that it takes forever to get there (this is about 30 minutes for me). One has to cross four tributaries of the toll road without the aid of pedestrian lights. One has to cross the main drag in Reston, as well as another six lane monster of a suburban street. None of the walk is in the woods, and it's all on roads, which sucks.
So, I got across the toll road, and before Sunrise Valley Drive, I reached a place where I could turn off and enter a parking lot. The buildings looked just like the ones behind our office, so I didn't think it was that far. It was now dark, and I was squinting at buildings down embankments and through the trees. There are buildings back there that I've never seen. I don't think I went too far out of my way, but *right* before I found our parking lot, I called Tino and said I was lost. I wound up scrambling down and enbankment while ducking through some trees, and blam, I was in GiantMediaCo's parking lot.
After that, I went to Taco Bell and was behind a woman who was, apparently, too dumb to use the drive through without inconveniencing everyone else. This sort of behavior annoys me in general, but when that person is also driving a shiny new Mercedes, it annoys me more. I feel that people who drive cars that cost twice as much as mine should, perhaps, demonstrate some intelligence. There's no justice in the world, I tell ya.
My car now has a new wheel bearing in the front and four new brake rotors in back. There is now no noise coming from the wheels, which is terrific. Now it needs a muffler, but that's not very expensive, and will not be done by Tino (all the other things mentioned here were).
I want to take a moment to mention the absurdity of not shipping an order from the weekend until Wednesday. What the fuck is up with that? Why have web ordering at all if it takes 4 days to package and ship an order? This doesn't seem to be taking advantage of the magic of computers.
