Why I Am a Tomboy

After listening to Tino's exhaustive description of his neighborhood experience as a child, I came to a couple of conclusions.  The first one is that, in some ways, I think I would be better off if my family hadn't moved quite so much.  I had so many neighbors over the years that I'm unable to remember them all.  I also recall that there were few girls nearby as playmates.  Having to make friends with boys alters your view of the world.  Boys do not like to do the same things as girls, and if they are to accept you, you have to do what they like.

For me, that meant I was a tree-climbing tomboy.

While on a search for an interesting link about the Planned Community where I grew up, Park Forest, I found out that there was a whole book written about it last year:  America's First G.I. Town.

I also found this:

and many more pictures of happy, shiny people and funny brochures for $12,000 houses.

Really, there are a lot of great pictures at the Park Forest Library's Digitizing Project.  They are copyrighted, so I didn't want to post them *all* here.  They'll probably turn up from time to time as I find a use for them.
