random update

The actual temperature is either 99 or 100, depending on what weather station you check, but the heat index is 114' right now.  That's just ludicrous.

Finally, my work machines are all set up the way they should be.  There's one machine I use that I can't seem to get to do what I want in terms of shells, but I've decided to give up on that for today.  This means, until I fix it, that I'm stuck using vi commands on the command line instead of the emacs or pico style commands I use on EVERY OTHER machine.  I also can't get completion to work, which is an enormous pain in the ass.

On the brighter side of things, I've crossed into actual debugging of the code I started writing for GiantMediaCo last Thursday.  It's making a graph, but it looks totally wrong to me.  This is OK because if I'm getting that far, I've at least figured out how to manipulate the dozens of library modules and routines that were all written by my co-workers.  So, yay for that.

I do indeed have a new manager, and it is the most senior member of the group.  This is the best choice, and we were allowed to make it, which says something about this company.  I also have a new, better, more adjustable chair.

Outside of work, things have been pretty darn busy.

The dope who hit the truck does have insurance, but we can't get his agent to write up a claim.  She has until tomorrow to get this claim number to us.  On Monday, I call the lawyer.  Her dumbass client fled the scene of an accident, for god's sake.  You think they'd actually do their job.  He's lucky the cops don't give a shit, or he'd be in jail.  He actually went to the police and confessed that he'd been driving the car, but after speaking to him myself (wherein he gave the same information for the same insurance agent that is too lazy to call us back), I'm quite certain he was not driving but is instead "taking responsibility" to cover up for a son, nephew or brother who has more at stake.  Whatever.  We just want the money to fix the truck.

We saw Rush Hour 2 last night.  It was OK, which is about what I thought of the first one.  I'm not into kung fu movies, not even good ones, apparently.  There were funny moments, but to be perfectly honest, many of them were at the expense of Asians or blacks.  These sorts of jokes are never as funny as...well...anything else.

You'd think after a week of not writing that I'd have more to say, but you'd be wrong.
