Al Gore has already lost

Yeah, I mean that.

Joe Lieberman is a disasterous choice not because of his religious affiliations but because he is a rabid censor. A fair share of younger folks who would normally vote Democratic remember the PMRC Senate hearings and don't want to go through all that again. I know that people that I talk to (and most are a generation behind the boomers) who are "liberals" are leaning towards Nader. All have mentioned that the idea of censoring video games, movies, music and TV is abhorrent to them. All are aware that the combination of the First Lady (Tipper) and the VP could be a juggernaut in the destruction of the first amendment.[1]

What is it about the boomers that drives them to dumb down all of our culture to the level they deem "safe" for a toddler? Who the fuck wants that anyway? Lazy parents, apparently.

In the immortal words of Dee Snider and Al Gore himself:

SENATOR GORE. Let us suppose the lyrics are not printed. Then what choice does a parent have? To sit down and listen to every song on the album?

MR. SNIDER. Well, if they are really concerned about it I think that they have to.

SENATOR GORE. Do you think it is reasonable to expect parents to do that?

MR. SNIDER. Being a parent is not a reasonable thing. It is a very hard thing. I am a parent and I know. OK. I am a new parent. I only have one child, maybe. But I am learning that there is a lot to being a parent that you did not expect. It is not just always a cute baby. There is a lot of labor, a lot of time, and a lot of effort that goes into it. It is not totally pleasurable.

And later...

SENATOR ROCKEFELLER. What about families where both parents have to work, which is an increasing phenomenon in this country now, because they have to survive? And the whole notion of parents sitting down and listening to record after record, tape after tape--that is what you suggested--does that not strike you as just a little bit naive and unrealistic?

MR. SNIDER. No, it does not, because I know the reality of the record-buying market as a record buyer. With my allowance, I was able to, if I was lucky, afford maybe one album a week at the most. Usually it was one a month. Albums cost anywhere from $6 to $10, and that is a lot of money for a teenager, or to a pre-teenager it is a ridiculous sum.

And to a teenage kid that is a considerable amount o fmoney. And so to listen to one record a week, I do not consider that a hardship.

I think that if Al Gore is going to win back this subset of the Democratic party, Joe Lieberman is going to have to eat shit. I can't see that happenning any time in the near future -- he just doesn't seem like that kind of guy.

Oh, and I ran everyone's charts this morning (except Lieberman's. I can't find his birthday easily, it seems) and I have a clearer idea of why Gore seems so uncharismatic. He has Mercury[2] in Pisces, the poor guy. If he had not been raised from birth to be a politician, I highly doubt he would have gone into that line of work. This is not unusual of course. Many people get pushed into the family business who are better suited to something else. Anyway, this is not a bad position for Mercury (no astrologic position is inherently bad. Except Moon in Capricorn, of course.), it's just a position better suited to someone's whose primary contact with their public is not through the political speech (an actor would benefit from the position, I think). For that, you want something like Mercury in Leo, one of the most confident talkers you can get for your money. George W. and Bill Clinton both have Mercury here, for instance (both have it conjuct Pluto to boot adding a measure of power to their speech). Jesse Jackson, one of the Dem's finest speakers, has it in Scorpio which is very forceful indeed. Interestingly, Jesse is a Libra. Librans are often charismatic (Libra risings just as much as the Sun, this was Hitler's rising...I'm not comparing politics here, just charisma), and astrologers claim that Librans are obsessed with issues of fairness and equality. Does that fit this man to a T or what? OK, enough of the woo-woo stuff. I can see you all yawning.

Maybe Al will prove me wrong tonight and make a speech that will win everyone over. Maybe, but I doubt it. I do freely admit that Al has a good sense of humor. That's something anyway.

You know what really cracks me up? The Repub's saying stuff like "can you stand eight more years of this?". Um, yeah, I can stand 8 more years of the most incredible prosperity the United States has ever experienced, but thanks for asking.

[1]Speaking of Amendments and destruction, have y'all seen this? So, I'm not just laying blame on the Dems. This is just further confirmation of Bush's sliminess. Frankly, I couldn't care less who his running mate is because I wouldn't vote for that bastard anyway. It's sad, but he doesn't need my vote, and he'll probably be the next president. Man, it hurts to even say that.

[2]Mercury positions are supposed to say a lot about the way a person expresses themselves. You want something solid and confident here if you're aiming to be a politician. Debbi Kempton-Smith calls it your 'talker'. While this is simplistic, it's also accurate.
