June 4, 1997

Yesterday turned into one of those days where I was thwarted at every turn. My emacs sessions kept dying along with my x sessions. This always happens when I've been furiously typing code and haven't saved my file in the last 10 minutes or so. When I'm having a Perl epiphany, I tend to forget the practical stuff. So, I recover the session and try to get my brain back before it was so rudely distracted, and I complete the subroutine. I need to test the cgi, so I go over to Netscape and -poof- the menu choice my cgi (the cgi first executes a template sort of file, so I need to be in the site and click on the menu choice for the script to work correctly) is behind is gone because someone has messed with my permissions. In the last half hour. I mess around with the code some more, but the permissions don't come back for hours. When they do, the code actually works. Yahoo.

I finally called the help desk about my packet disappearances, and they knew what I was talking about, but they never called back. They didn't fix anything because I still had the same problems. today.

As I write this, I wait for Twonk to arrive for a tingle.

I'm dying for my new 19" monitor to arrive. The transition from the 21" monitor at work to my ancient 14" curved screen 640x480 monitor is getting to be too much. I've mail ordered a fixed frequency monitor and the Tseng card to drive the thing. If this works out well, I'll be singing the praises of this company. If it doesn't, I reckon you'll hear about that too.
