No, seriously, if you live and Florida and you didn't vote, A POX ON YOU! Half of you didn't vote, so it's got to be someone's fault.
I'm totally amazed that if Gore loses, Ralph Nader really *will* have made a difference. The guy isn't going to get Federal Campaign funds four years from now, and yet he has obviously made a HUGE difference in the outcome of the election. Who would have thought such a small percentage of votes could matter? Obviously, all you rat bastards who didn't vote.
Yeah, I'm being harsh. I have no sympathy for y'all. Especially if you live in a Motor-Voter state. You know who else I don't have sympathy for? The Democratic party. If y'all lose, then you deserved it. Maybe you should have listened to your more progressive constituency instead of tear-gassing and billy-clubbing them at the convention, as blivet pointed out.
And frankly, the congress is so close now that if Strom Thurmon or Jessie Helms drop dead[1], the Senate mix will flip to the Democrats. Either way, no one has a mandate. It's going to be a contentious four years, in any case.
OH! And Missouri elected a dead guy[2]! What a thrill that must be for his widow. I was happy to hear that she accepted from her "family farm in Central Missouri". It's great that she's a "down-state democrat" because I know how things go in states like that. Illinois and Missouri both have a lot of acreage in rural areas but very large population bases in the city(ies). Whenever Republicans don't win, they blame it on the city folks. They can't do that this time, IMHO, because she's legitimately not from St. Louis or Kansas City.
I am sad that Chuck Robb lost. He's the only non-Libertarian for whom I voted (and ironically, the only race that I think my Virginia vote might have mattered anyway), and although I don't much like him, Allen makes my skin crawl. There's the VDOT stupidity and/or corruption, there's his staunch pro-life stance[3] and then there's the fact of his waffling, shaky stance on the second amendment[4].
