OK, I'm going to discuss part of my angst from yesterday.
It's a dog thing.
Ellen brought her dog this weekend. He's a delightful creature, and very wiggly, as another favorite journaler of mine[1] would say. He's totally well behaved, so it's not a behavioral issue. In other words, Marley is not a bad example of a dog, he's a good example. He thinks Ellen is a goddess, and that's just the way you want a dog to be[2]. The problem, you see, is that I seem to have developed some sensitivity to dog hair. I also have some sensitivity to cat hair, but I don't like cats enough to have one, so I'm not heartbroken about that. It wasn't a problem until I swiffed up the dog hair and cleaned the swiffer. And this is a task that I'd have to do every day if I had a dog of my own.
I'd probably deal with it if it were just that, but added to that is the fact that Tino doesn't really like dogs. It's not that he hates them or anything, he just seems confused by their appeal and I'm not willing to put up with the itchiness of the hair, the cleaning and the fact that he'd be "putting up" with the dog instead of finding any inconveniences to be a fair trade off for the companionship and entertainment that a dog provides.
So, I'm kind of depressed about that.
As Amanda is not posting right now and since Ed is incapable, I will discuss make up. Yesterday involved a mall trip, and I wanted to hit the Stila counter because I had this unaccountable craving for blue mascara and I really like their black mascara. I purchased some of Stila's Azur shade, and I also picked some eye shadow. The name of the eye shadow color is Dahlia, but really, it should be Bruise Violet[3], because that's what color it is. Stila doesn't have *much* that's not very sparkly, but this isn't very sparkly. That's what I wanted. My noticing the bruisey nature of the color was enhanced by the fact that I cleaned the brush on a kleenex. It previously contained the Philosphy taupe[4] color, so once I cleaned off the violet too, it looked quite like a bruise on the kleenex.
I also purchased another Cookbook at the Philosophy counter. You wouldn't think that one would want shampoo to smell like food...until you smell this shampoo. I use an almond smelling soap (it doesn't leave the smell on my skin, it just smells great in the shower) and I think that Pumpkin Pie will be a nice addition to the overall smell in the shower steam. I have some weird desire to smell like a baked good, although these shampoos don't leave much scent on your hair anyway. I also favor vanilla smelling things. I really don't want to buy the Cookbook though. What I really want is to buy a 12 ounce container of the Cinnamon Bun (which really smells like the icing, not the bun, but that's OK) and the Pumpkin Pie. Those dorks at Philosophy don't sell them that way anymore, so now I'm forced to buy a bunch of fruity smelling things that are *nice*, but not spectacular like the other two.
Sometimes I think that the trend of people marrying later and having children later is actually self-perpetuating and will result in fewer people getting married and having children. Now that our society attaches no shame to pre-marital sex[5], you can just shack up and have all the sex you want. Ultimately, this results in people becoming gradually pickier in their attempts to choose a mate. Pretty soon, no one is good enough.
