Frustration, Anger and Disappointment

So, the house in Warren County continues to get built.

We have a new round of badly timed fuckwittage that must be dealt with this weekend. This is bad for a few reasons.

What has happenned is that through a lack of communication by our realtor and our builder in Front Royal, the need for us to pick light fixtures has gone beyond mere picking. We have to choose and deliver the fixtures to the house for installation before Monday morning. Doing this by Sunday is not trivial. Here's what we have to do (I'm quite the list maker today):

  • Go out to Front Royal and figure out where the installed fixtures are actually going to go. This cannot be done in the dark as there is no power to the house, so we'll likely have to do it on Saturday. Otherwise, by the time we get out there after work, it will be dark.

  • Find and purchase said fixtures. This is no small thing as it involves Tino and I and many decisions. Thank &diety that our aesthetic is at least similar.

  • Deliver said fixtures to the garage in Front Royal with tags on where they go.

Our realtor keeps pulling this "we're just simple country folk" bullshit on us. What a load of crap. The builder is obviously successful, and he builds vacation houses for many folks from Fairfax County, so it's not like we're unusual for him. The realtor works for Weichert, a big established company.

Oh, and they have both slammed our mortgage guy for demanding fucking floor plans for the FHA appaisal. They are required. Period.[1]

We could accept this nonsense with the lights as part of the joy of having a semi-custom house built. Unfortunately, it's really poorly timed. Some friends of ours will be visiting from Canada this weekend (mostly to see a concert and a friend they missed at their April gathering up there that we did attend), and since we've been told that the only time we can see them is in some restaurant in D.C. at about 8pm on Saturday night...I'm thinking that will not happen for us. We'll likely be dicking around with something involving lighting. We already know that Home Depot is inadequate to our lighting needs, and this means going places with which we're not familiar and this ALWAYS takes longer than planned. I'd really like them to come out to Reston to see our cool new house. We've worked our asses off on it and it is pretty neat, but they are flying and staying in DC with a friend who has a two-seater car, so that's problematic. Yeah, we could pick up the whole lot of them at the Metro, but that makes the trip out here (extra-long on a weekend -- fewer trains and such) unworth it for just dinner or brunch. Oh, and we have movers coming next week and Tino has two work all of both weeks and thusly must pack over the weekend...

So, I'm pretty pissed about the timing of all this. There's really no one to be pissed at but fate or our Front Royal buyer's agent (who has NOT done anything like $7K worth of work on this, which is what she gets for being the buyer's agent).

Yeah, my life sucks again today. And you want to hear something really alarming? You know all the writing of entries that has occurred today? This has been punctuated by trips to the kitchen to attempt to microwave my lunch. This place *really* needs another micro.

[1]Apparently, the builder knows the FR appraiser and that guy blows off the need for plans, for whatever reason. They then suggested that maybe we should use Weichert mortgage. WHAT? We're going to change our banking relationships to buy this house? I don't think so. Why the hell would we want to go through the mortgage approval process ALL OVER AGAIN. This suggestion was accompanied by the "it's rural out here, we do things differently than your fancy Fairfax mortgage company". ohforchristsake. They accepted the contract with FHA financing and what could be more standard nationally than a Federal Gubmint mortgage? Nothing, that's what.
