This coming into the office thing is just killing me. I know, most of you out there are saying "shut up, you fuckin' whiner", but once you've had something just the way you want it and you've seen how good it can be...well, then doing it differently becomes difficult and seems stupid.
I don't care what any High School Guidance Counselor says, programming is a creative job, not a technical one. Ask anyone who does it -- enlightenment does not necessarily come between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm. I've been in a situation where I just came in for meetings. This works perfectly well for me, but not all management can deal with that. Almost anyone can handle me not being on-site two days a week, and if you're that backwards that that doesn't work for you and you don't believe in e-mail and AIM...well, the likes of me will not work for the likes of you anyway.
So, now what to do? I don't know. Give them a few more days to come up with the VPN access, I guess. I really enjoy my work. Honest.
We talked to the cluster management, and everything is A OK. They want the stuff fixed, but they want to be friends too, so I'm no longer concerned about that. Instead, I have a new concern: When I talked to the guy, he told me they are removing a Holly tree adjacent to our property. This could be good (the place is pretty dark), or it could be bad (could be a crucial tree for our privacy). Tino is going to check it out and maybe take some pictures.
