If you read my trip journal at astrogirl.com, I have added some map images and the daily mileage profiles.
Also, there is an earlier entry for today here. My calendaring system can't handle multiples. I promise I'll think about doing something about that.
We had a Totally Tino Adventure(tm) yesterday. Tino got a yen to purchase a '68 Porche 912 that he saw on EBay[1], and due to a bit of serendipity, I nailed the winning bid by $1 with 7 seconds to go on the auction. Of course, we had to immediately go to the bank (at 4:30pm and we needed an open lobby) and get the certified funds so we could drive to Philly to check it out and pick it up.
There were complications, of course. The bank has weird arbitrary limits on cashier check amounts. The only branch lobby open at 4:30pm was in a Safeway and didn't have the cash on hand. We had to withdraw a pile of money at a branch bank in a Safeway with NO PRIVACY. It was a very suboptimal situation, banking wise.
The trip to Philly was uneventful, but because the seller was unable to obtain temporary plates, we had to stick Jeep plates on it so Tino wouldn't get pulled over. Then, we realized the title wasn't notarized and we now needed a favor once we got back to Washington.
On the way back, the car would not restart in one of those Delaware tollroad waysides. You cannot get any sort of service at 1:30am in spite of the fact that there is an Exxon and a Mobil with service bays. No one sells cables. No one was around to jump a car. The attendants didn't have cables. As it turned out, through some ideosyncracy, the car just wouldn't start while the engine was hot (yeah, you read that right). After all the fucking around, the car started and off we went the rest of the way.
Much shuffling of cars occurred to get the Porche on the private road, and the Jeep on the public one with the front plate hidden. By now, the car is legally plated and Tino has begun the assessment process. I'm sure he'll write more about that himself.
