Ticket Avoidance Through Dumb Luck

So, I narrowly avoided a ticket about 10 minutes ago. Pure luck, that. The Fairfax County Police, who probably have nothing better to do, were hiding in the bushes on Sunrise Valley with motorcycles. They were using a handheld radar gun.

I was in the left lane, and this guy in a minivan was in the right. At this point, I had no idea the cops were there. I don't know how fast I was going. Suddenly, someone runs out in the street in front of the minivan. As I get closer, I see that it's a cop wearing those jodphurs that the motorcycle cops here wear. He waved the guy onto a side street, and I finally realized what was going on. I've never seen a cop *run out in front of a car* to pull it over before. You'd think they'd discourage that sort of thing.

Clearly, if I was keeping pace with that guy, I must have been speeding, so I consider myself very lucky. As usual, I was rushing to work.

Today is a lovely day in Virginia -- a great day to have a convertible, which I do. As Tino says, "the butterflies are singing lullabies to the buttercups". Is that how you spell lullabies? Or is it lullabys. The rules say it's lullabies, but that looks wrong.

Actually, I am one person with two cars today. The BMW is getting new tires (baby really needed some new shoes) and getting the power windows looked at because the just stopped working yesterday. I think Ed's helping me with the car shuffle -- I haven't really arranged it yet.

I get to go home early today (and it's a good day for that too) and wait for the cable modem guy to come and increase my bandwidthy goodness. Man, those are good commercials. Williams also has great print ads. They look like New Yorker cartoons or something. Yeah, they are a competitor, but they've got the TV ad thing down, I have to say. I have yet to see our ads, but since they are going to be televised all through the NCAA playoffs, lots of other people have already seen them.
