If good fences make good neighboors, the Marines should be the best neighboors in the world. They are a lot better than my other neighboors. Thank goodness there's only one family like that on the block.
They do calithenics and formal marching practice in a empty lot that I drive past on the way to work. They jog around the neighboorhood in a pack. I like the eye-candy - hey, I'm human.
I've only run into actual Marines once. I was out for a walk, and they said "good evening, ma'am." Now, who else would be walking around my neighboorhood with those haircuts saying things like that? Off-duty Marines. Had to be.
They do mess up the traffic on 8th street at rush-hour a lot more than I'd like. The Marine Band is physically located here in DC (these barracks house all the ceremonial type Marines - like the ones that appear with Bill on TV), and they have concerts in the evenings. I'm really baffled as to why they don't just take over 9th for the night. 9th is residential, and 8th is a major commercial strip. It'd be a better choice traffic wise, and who would stop them anyway?
