Just this morning there was an editorial on WAMU about that Massachusetts law that I bitched about yesterday. This gentlemen was, of course, going on about how wonderful it was that this law will pass in Maryland.
He also happens to be a member (or possibly the leader) of the group that sponsored the law. I wish I could play back the piece, but it was a local slot on Morning Edition, and I highly doubt I will be able to find that RealPlayered up anywhere.
Since yesterday, I've found yet another movement that's child oriented and really pisses me off. Why is it that no one cares about uninsured adults? You hear every politition, busy body and do-gooder going on about how we need programs to cover uninsured children. Apparently, their parents are unimportant. This is an incredibly short-sighted position, is it not? An illness or accident of a parent could easily drive a family to bankruptcy. Uninsured people don't get the best care, as we all know, so this means that the family unit is still at great risk of upheaval and division.
I fail to see how this insure the children movement can be spun as a good thing. OK, it could be spun, but it defies logic. Oh yeah, most people are dumb and/or apathetic. I always forget that.
