silents

I think my boyfriend Tino is officially a cartoon. I wrote to someone that I don't actually know but know *of* from more than one source. I happenned to be reading a journal piece on his website and decide to say hi. I got back mail that included: "Anyhow, perhaps our paths will cross at some point. I've heard so many Tino Stories, it'd be edutaining to meet him (and you) in person." I like to think this distracts attention from me. I consider this a *good* thing.

I'm about to leave for beautiful Salt Lake City. I'm doing a maintenance window for my company. Since my mom just *happens* to live near there, I can stay over the weekend and visit the parents in their new post-retirement house. They were retired for about three weeks. Now they are realtors. These particular parents of which I speak are my mother and step-father. My father also attempted to retire a few years back. It stuck for at least a month, but it definitely didn't stick. My step-mother is retired, but she also has some health problems that keep her from working. She's *very* busy even though she doesn't work. Tino's parents are also retired. Betty seems happy to not work, but I think once's Terry starts to feel better he'll be itchy to do something. All these folks are Silents (see this book for a complete explanation of what this means) with the exception of my step-father, who is a Boomer. In short, they were all born during WWII or right before it. I wonder if it's this generation that is like this or if it's just the new way of things. People are a lot healthier into their retirement years now, so it makes sense for them to do...whatever, but something. And, of course, everything costs more now, so retiring early just means that many more years with no income, and that's not good.

I suppose I need to finish packing, and I also suppose that I may not make entries in the next several days. On the other hand, I might make entries every day.
