So, I put some new CDs up on my mp3 site. If you know about it, you can now find the new Stereolab (which I don't think much of, but I've already bought it), The Wedding Present Singles, and Mission of Burma Signals Calls & Marches. This is actually my first purchase of that record. I think this is fairly unusual for someone with my particular musical tastes.
I'd been told over and over and over "Nicole, you should like Mission of Burma" then "Nicole, why don't you like Mission of Burma" then "How can you not like Mission of Burma if you like [insert seminal punk band here]. Well, I didn't like Mission of Burma because I saw Roger Miller open for Husker Du in 1987 and I thought he was truly awful. Granted, I was not expecting a one man show of pieces for prepared piano, but I didn't like it. Please keep in mind that I actually like Philip Glass and John Cage and Sonic Youth -- all that. Since Roger Miller really sucked, I never caught on to Mission of Burma. Yeah, I know all Mission of Burma predates 1987, but I was 14 and very suburban when Signals Calls and Marches came out, so of course I would have been into it after the fact. So, every time I heard them, I thought of that, and it just didn't work for me.
I admit that Signals Calls and Marches rocks.
That is all.
