Jobs and Cocteau Twins

So, supposedly I'm in great demand, and damn it, until today I wasn't really getting any action. All of a sudden the dam broke. I received a contract for one job. Not only was it a live contract, but they paid $2.00 an hour more than I asked for. I was supposedly doing a phone interview with another guy (whom I worked with at Clueless & Witless), but he wasn't there when I called. I'm currently on a plane to San Jose so that I can have several hours of interviews in beautiful Sunnyvale, CA tomorrow. I'm a bit concerned about Merc going retrograde. That just happenned a minute or two ago.

Before I started watching the re-run of That 70's Show that United has thoughtfully provided for my entertainment, I was listening to some Cocteau Twins[1], who I had completely forgotten about until blivet waxed poetic about cheap Cocteau Twins CDs. He was talking about how they all look alike and the song titles are meaningless. I also listened to a My Bloody Valentine tune called Loomer. MBV is another one of those bands whose song titles seem meaningless and have album covers that all look alikee and the vocalists are sweet-voiced chicks.

Oh, and I also listened to Bee Thousand, my favorite Guided By Voices album.

But speaking of United, this trip (so far) has been good. I called yesterday to ask for an upgrade to First Class. I didn't get the upgrade, but the guy was really helpful, and I didn't expect to get the upgrade anyway. It's that same IAD->SJC flight that is always full, and the First Class cabin is only 12 seats. He did coerce me into trying the Hindu Vegetarian meal instead of the Ovo-Lacto, and it was interesting. The "Naan" was hilarious -- it looked (and tasted) like circular cut outs of flour tortillas. The dessert (Habish Halvah) was really yummy, and the actual main dish was pretty good. It was spicy, but the curry flavors were sort of weak. It was better than usual anyway.

Furthermore, I wound up in an window seat in the exit row. Kick ass. I should relax more and let things happen, I suppose.

[1]If T is reading this: honey, you need to re-rip the Cocteau Twins CD. You recorded it a million years ago when the Rio seemed amazing in and of itself and 64 sounded like a *good* bit rate. It now sounds like shit next to everyting else.
