What makes Fairfax County think that buses will solve their traffic problems? Want to hear their latest brilliant idea? By 2003, (2003!) there will be buses running from the Vienna metro to Tyson's Corner.
Who are these idiots? This helps people without cars to get to the mall and other shopping strips, but the offices are scattered *all over* McLean and Vienna, and people with cars do not voluntarily take buses. Name one (U.S.!) city where adding buses has improved traffic conditions.
chirp, cricket, chirp
Yeah, that's what I thought.
And they keep touting that they are extending the Metro to Dulles. OK, that's a good plan. Why haven't they broken ground on it? Many of the office buildings in Reston are right next to the toll road, and there are sidewalks and paths between them, so this isn't an idea bereft of intelligence, but what's the *real* plan? Will there be Metro stations at all the exits? Are they building at least one set of Metro ramps to serve the primary station that DC bound commuters will use? Because Wiehle is pretty messed up now at rush hour and there's already a bunch of parking lots for commuters (going to DC) at Wiehle. There will need to be a stop at Reston Parkway for the huge number of employees up there (Oracle, TRW, the Town Center, etc). Are they going to do it right? Who the hell knows? I haven't seen any plans. If anyone knows where they can find the plans on line, let me know and I'll check them out.
