Kansas or Creed. It's your choice...
I hate Creed enough that I went with Kansas and now I'm being punished with a "Carry On My Wayward Son" ear worm. Ugh. The radio here is such a fucking wasteland. From what I've been hearing though, things are tough all over on that score. I usually listen to public radio, but I just wanted some music this morning, and I forgot to make sure the Miata had the tape widget for my Rio, so I was at the mercy of the airwaves.
Work is about the same. I have a job, and that's all that matters to me at this point. It's great that it's a pretty easy job. Better yet, I've actually written some new stuff, just because I wanted to. I'm rarely motivated to code without a specific request, but I've wanted to solve this problem for about a year now.
While I was at Broadwing, someone deep within marketing produced a report that was a map of the network with the traffic on the trunks. It was in Power Point and had to be handmade every week. I wanted something like that that would be produced dynamically, and now I have it.
I have all sorts of plans for embellishment of the original idea, and most are ala Edward Tufte. The idea is to provide the detail, but allow someone to grasp the traffic situation without actually looking at the numbers themselves. A picture can contain an incredible number of statistics by using color and shape and layout, and that's what I'm going for.
At this point, I'm just happy it works.
This website may be redone in a new form. I'm not posting enough for a daily diary, and if that doesn't change soon, I may go to a different format and navigation for my current stuff. This website was designed in great haste, and there are a lot of things that I would do differently. I was *very* lazy with the visual design itself, for instance.
Of course, this relies on me actually having the time and energy to do this stuff. Perhaps nothing will change at all. I'm a busy girl these days. I used to update about five times a week, but it looks like I can't manage more than three entries a week these days.
Bah.
