While we were sleeping peacefully on Friday night, somebody chucked a rock at the Miata and put a huge dent-n-scratch in the hood. It's really nasty, and it's going to be expensive. Luckily, that's State Farm's problem since we already paid our comprehensive deductible with the last damage.
We called the police (this was on Saturday night), and the same cop came as last time. He went on and on about how Tino didn't have a front plate on the car. AGAIN. Instead of being concerned that someone is fucking around behind our house, he was concerned about that front plate. It's OK for someone to break the law by vandalizing our stuff, but it's a big deal for us to break the law by not having a front plate. We really did lose the plate, but he doesn't believe us. Being an employee of DC, he has no sympathy for the fact that we will have to take off work to go to the stupid BMV since their message says "be sure to come early in the morning to ensure that your transaction can be completed the same day." Apparently, it takes 7 hours (they close at 3pm) to issue a plate or a driver's license or whatever. We're going on Tuesday. I'm sure I'll have something to say about it.
We have a theory as to what is going on. David is usually a social guy. He stopped speaking to us around the time the Miata was broken into (two weeks ago). Also, his two pit bull puppies disappeared around this time. This isn't really unusual or surprising. David is always losing dogs because he ties them up in the backyard with food and water and figures that that suffices for parenting. What he doesn't realize is that the German Shepard and Pit Bulls he favors are smarter than he is. They get bored, and before you know it, they are running around loose. At night, they whine and bark all night long. They are just puppies, and they don't realize why they've been "abandoned" to the backyard.
So, anyway, David had long-standing battles with the Virginians on the other side of him about the dogs. When the very first puppy was hit by a car, that guy called the humane society. They came and got the dog and fixed it up. They wanted to be reimbursed for the vet care before they'd give the dog back to David. Of course, he didn't have the money, and he blamed the guy for calling the shelter. After that, he had a succession of dogs that all disappeared after they were running around loose or barking all night. I have NO idea who called animal control, but someone did. Well, the Virginians have moved out, and I'm afraid that David and/or the kids think that WE called animal control about the pitbulls. Well, we didn't, and he's still not speaking to us. I rather LIKE him not speaking to us, but not if he (or the kids, really the more likely culprit) are exercising a vendetta against us, particularly one based on speculation.
