I just had a very good laugh at the absurdity of having a live tree in a Yard Cart...in my living room. It just seems totally ludicrous, but in a good way of course.
Tino always feels guilty about the cut tree and I refuse to even consider a fake tree. We were out looking for a cut tree in Front Royal, and we did find some, but it was a nursery so they also sold live trees. This way, we can plant it in the yard after the new year. Yes, we have a lot of trees, but no conifers.
It's a Douglas Fir.
You can't even guess at how much a tree with it's root ball attached weighs until you try and get it up the steps. Especially since it's 10' out right now and our hands were numb, gloves or no.
Man, do I have a lot of cooking to do before Sunday night. I like to cook, so that's not a bad thing, but at the moment, it seems overwhelming.
Oh, and the tree needs to be decorated, of course. We couldn't find anything suitable for the top of it, so it's getting a santa hat. Usually, one prunes a tree to get it just right, but since this one has probably been through enough trauma already, we're going to punt with the Santa hat. And the yard cart must be covered, of course. We looked for a muck bucket, which is what most people use for a live tree, but we couldn't find one. We bought a sort of bin to put the tree in, but neither of us want to lift it out of the yard cart, so instead, we will skirt the yard cart. Maybe I'll post a picture later.
It's so much more fun having this living thing in the room, but man, we're getting it delivered next time.
