At least one important case will be heard by the current Supreme Court. There are many things on the list for this session, but IMHO, the most important item under debate is the fourth amendment.
Really, if this one goes the wrong way, you can just kiss that amendment goodbye. In fact, if they decide that random drug searches with no probable cause are legal, I'm not sure that I can justify living in the U.S. anymore. If *this* court decides that we aren't free from that sort of harrassment by law enforcement, then it's far, far too late to worry about who Dubya might appoint should he win.
Why doesn't anyone notice that "the good of the children" is being used as an excuse for the government to take away all our constitutionally granted rights? As we edge closer and closer to a police state, I keep thinking that Canada looks better and better. We used to be a paragon of democracy and liberty in the world and now we're a terrible warning of what can happen when we don't exercise constant vigilance.
I keep hoping for the backlash.
I keep hoping people will wake the fuck up and vote their conscience and not simply for the lesser evil.
I keep hoping that someone revolutionary will come along and unite all us disaffected voters to scream and yell until the two-party system is declared dead.
I keep hoping that people will notice the erosion of their liberties before it's too late.
