chinacat mentioned today that she didn't understand how someone could lose an entry during construction. I'd say that I use an editor about 50% of the time and I use d'land on the fly the other 50%. I don't recall ever having lost an entry.[1]

The point that I did take away from her entry was the "what if d'land dies and loses everything". I'd been thinking about that a couple of months ago, and I took some initial steps towards backing up my journal. And then I never completed the task. Tonight, I wrote a perl script to suck down all my entries based on my older*.html pages. I'm happy to say that I now have my own copies, so thanks for the shove, E.

I have some more to say, especially about that damn vault and the gross unfairness of it all, but I'll get to that later.
