Less Shame?

Well, I'm slightly less frustrated with the houses today. Somehow, I can now see that this state of house flux and total chaos at the old townhouse is transitory. I think part of the issue is that I realized that the HC house will be done this week. All that's left to do is some painting and cleaning.

I'm not looking forward to the tasks for FR this weekend since they will make my weekend really crunched for time, but we have to live with those fixtures for a long time, so it's important. My friends have all professed that they are not as fixed as to times and dates as I previously thought, so I think we'll be able to work something out. I found out that they'll be here Monday too, so I can blow off work during the day if need be.

Work, on the other hand, is proving to be frustrating. I really want to work somewhere that they say "OK, we only use Unix here, so you desktop will be a Unix workstation, whether you like it or not." Man, that would be great. See, they are making that great error that so many companies have made -- the are changing to an All Exchange, All the Time mail format.

Windows is a nice toy, but it's a TOY, not an real operating system. I can't figure out why corporate droids persist in thinking that it's a good idea. Windows is good for small networks or individuals but for big networks? I don't think so. I'm really opinionated on this subject, so I'll just drop it now. I don't want to get into an argument, because I won't budge on it anyway. :) See? I told you I was stubborn.

Ok, back to work. I have one more report script to write today.

Speaking of that, I'd really prefer to be doing bandwidth measurement again. I'm acutally INTERESTED in those numbers. Provisioning data is just...data. There's no real interest on my part. I can do it, but it's totally passionless, and I operate best when I'm really engaged.

Two songs are making me happy today: Bastro, Flesh-Colored House and fIREHOSE, Mannequin.

OK, three. Add Big Star, In The Street.[1]

OK, now I'm really going to go off and do some coding.

[1]Yeah, this is the theme song for That 70's Show. I think the reason for the Cheap Trick version drifting into anthemic 'yeah yeahs' in the second verse is bloody obvious if you listen to this track. (ie Drugs are bad). Still, the Cheap Trick version is pretty good, but credit goes to Big Star for smithing this fine tune.
