Home Improvement

OK, so no more wallpaper stripping. I just wish I hadn't devoted so many hours to doing half of it before finding out that I needen't have.

See, I thought it was either rip out and replace the drywall (which sounds expensive, time consuming and VERY messy. one of those jobs that seems like a good idea until you are two hours in and accidentally sledge a plumbing line) or get that wallpaper off there. Turns out that you can purchase 3/8" drywall and just put it on top. I had no idea.

Also, we're thinking about not sanding the great room floor after all. In fact, I'm starting to think that it looked crappy because of all the humidity in the house. (It's a fucking terrarium of a house. While I was painting the inside and stripping the wallpaper, Tino was outside scrubbing mold, mildew and algae off the house.) We have been running a dehumidifier for three days now (We've emptied the water three times a day and the reservoir holds 65 pints.), and it's starting to look like the grain is not raised and more like it's actually kinda shiny. The high traffic areas are barren of almost all finish though, so it needs some attention.

We are currntly thinking more in the line of renting a floor machine for buffing, not sanding. The wallpaper steamer sort of sucked. The renting experience itself is fine, but the steamer just wasn't useful.

I don't want to go to Home Depot ever again, but I betcha I'll be there tomorrow. Sigh.

And Happy Labor Day to you too.
