Oh yeah, moving sucks

I've been a busy girl today, in spite of the fact that I didn't do that much actual work.

I got up on time and tried to get the VPN software to work. I tried and tried. For three hours I tried. I called Security Man, but he has again turned to vapor. I decided to go in to the office so that I could get out the one report I needed to get out today. Stupid me. I set the cron job to send me mail at my work address, so in order for it to get to the recipients, I had to pick it up and forward it. No way to do that from here, apparently.

I also found out that I cannot send any reports from that machine to outside addresses. Sigh. Let me just say that the crime of spamming has cost us all a real convenience -- relaying mail willy nilly. I didn't even know that I had it so good, and now it's gone. Motherfuckers.

I went to the storage space and grabbed all of the bankers boxes at the front. I suppose there could be more empty ones in there, but I guess we can fill these first. I prolly had 30 in my trunk. I've filled 10 in my office, and I'm about to fill 5 more in here (oh god, the closet...) or perhaps I'll pack books. I really just want the books sorted by category. I have learned after moving my stuff eight times and Tino and my stuff combined three times that one can label boxes and use the activity of packing to sort certain things into categories. "Kitchen" is just not an acceptable label. "Books" is a downright scary label for me to see on a box. We also have a box in storage labeled "broken gadgets, mac parts". brrrrr

I truly hate losing things. Frequently, Tino or I know that we own a thing (like a book, for instance) but cannot lay our hands on it at the moment. What good is having that thing if you don't know where it is?

You know what I don't have a method for? Clothes. I do, however, have a theory about clothes. This time, I'm moving them first. They are always a total ass pain to move and there's that horrifying let down when you empty a room (YAY!)... and then you open the closet. I'm opting out of that experience, but if anyone has suggestions for easy moving of hanging or folded clothes, drop me a line.

So, anyway, that's my Grand Unified Theory of Moving.

Man, you'd think I'd have learned by now that I never want to move again. Oh yeah, I learned that last time. At least it's starting to stick for longer than a year.
