My current reason for not enjoying travel is the way things smell on planes, in rental cars and in hotels. They all have some nauseating smell that is supposed to be an improvement. In an airplane bathroom...it's probably in improvement, but it's so pungent that I can taste it. The car thing is worse. There's almost no way to avoid it. Even with the windows open, it's only subdued, not expunged. Hotels deliberately spray stuff around on the carpets, and in fact I saw a maid spraying the whole damn hallway this morning. Obviously, I didn't like that.
There were more bad smells today as well. I tried to burn some eggs in my tiny hotel room kitchen. It set off the smoke alarm in my room (gee, if my neighbors were oversleeping, they weren't after that). Some woman actually managed to set a bag of microwave popcorn on fire while cooking it today. There was smoke all over the office, and it was seriously think and pungent. Who knew that burned popcorn could produce so much smoke? I make popcorn on the stove all the time, but I only burn a small bit of it in any one popping event.
A popping event. I wonder if that's the way the people at Orville Redenbacker refer to it. I suppose not.
The tune stuck in my head today was Back of a Car. Big Star really took it's time growing on me. I never liked it back when my friends were listening to it around '90-91. I was too busy being into Mudhoney, Didjits, Soundgarden, Soul Asylum indy indy blah blah blah.
At this very moment, I'm listening to Handsome Boy Modeling School Rock and Roll could never hip hop like this courtesy of Ed. Thanks Ed. Hopefully So..How's Your Girl will be waiting in my mailbox when I get home.
