I did do his diet for a while. I gained weight rapidly, and found out that maybe I shouldn't eat certain vegetables.

There could certainly have been other things going on, and the basis of it is OK. Unfortunately, the inclusion and recommendation of soy products makes me suspicious of the whole thing.

3.22.2010 I met Dr. Gundry's parents, both in their 80's, and was amazed at their physical condition and visual age, about 60. They were encouraged to reduce their diet to Dr. Gundry's premise several years ago and they too stated their traditional heath problems disappeared, their bodies became lean. They did not push the program, just shared, and seemed to find humor in certain parts of it and still some skepticism. Based on their appearance and spryness, I bought the book, waded throught the first few chapters on "killer genes" and began... When I opened my kitchen pantry I was startled to see how much processed, white food I relied on as "fillers" to feed my family. After a few days on the "diet", I noted that the majority of the food change was just back to predominantly fresh dark vegetables, fresh everything. I also noted that eating the nut mix twice a day caused me to not be hungry. It did become very awkward to put together meals quickly unless I just loaded plates with Romaine, masses of green beans and shoved the wedge of protein on... visually repetitive. The inclusion of soy in a diet designed for longevity is a little confusing since Breast Cancer Oncologist ask you to remove it from your diet immediately.
I joined Weight Watchers in 1989 and their diet to start was pretty much dead on to Dr. Gundry's directions of heaping your plate with green, reducing Protien to palm size and limiting the white foods. I did lose 32lbs on it quite easily and maintained it since to within 5lbs.... so, the prescribed combination does work to get you out of insulin resistance. But, as long range, I am unsure of the feasibility. I will see over the next several months how Phase 2 and 3 work out... and comment once again. I appreciate Astrogirl's inseted comments. Thanks for putting it into perspective.
