CSA Box for 6/28/2009

Black Raspberries: Eaten on their own. They deteriorated kind of quickly, and we didn’t get to the last cup or so before they had mold on them.

Curly Endive (chicory): There’s still have a little of this left. It was eaten some underneath sunny-side-up eggs and some was frozen for future use.

Red Mustard: Eaten cooked with vinegar and a hint of sugar. I think I did these in a bit of bacon grease (yum!). One portion frozen for later use.

Lettuce Mix: Eaten as salads and on sandwiches. We still have a little left, but that will probably be finished off today. We didn’t get any lettuce on 7/5

Kohlrabi: I didn’t get to this at all. I will blanch and freeze and use in something cooked.

Radishes: I ate all the radishes I had from all the boxes – I roasted them with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, and I love them this way. I guess I just have to cook radishes to like them! I could not convince Tino to try the cooked radishes. I wish someone had warned me how unbelievably bad these smelled when cooked because I would have turned on the fan in advance and gotten ahead of that.

Sugar Snaps: I shelled the big fatties and we ate them for dinner the night they came home. I mixed some into quinoa and Tino had them buttered, salted and peppered. The thinner ones were eaten raw, but I have a small handful left that will go into lunch, probably. I shelled a few for Tamagoyaki

Turnips: We ate these the night I brought them home. I picked over the greens (some were OK) and cleaned, chopped and froze for later.

Squash: I used the yellow squash over quinoa and peas that I had with a nice grouper filet. I also used up some of the basil I froze a couple of weeks ago for this meal. The zucchini was grated and made into a low carb/gluten-free pizza crust and that was darn tasty too. Other ingredients included parmesan cheese, a bit of brown rice flour and an egg. The pizza toppings included local Italian sausage.

Scallions: Used in Tamagoyaki, greens, the quinoa with peas, and I’m not sure what all else. Basically, if I needed a little onion, I used one of these. We did not get any of these on 7/5. I have a two left, but they might go today.
